Fourteen the easy way
I'm sure some of you have seen enough "best ofs" or "year in reviews" to hold you over at least until next year (is that a joke?) but I felt the need to give one a go. So some do best releases of the year or a general recap of things that have happened but I've decided just to do my favorite songs of the year. There was no criteria other than I had to listen to it a lot this year and really dig it. It didn't have to come out this year or even within the last fiscal year, I just had to listen to it and like it. They're in no order of importance nor did I take the time to make them flow in any sort of harmonious order. So enjoy or not, the point is, I did.
Brand New - Jesus Christ - I think I've made it quite clear my feelings on this band and this album. This is my favorite track from the release.
DeVotchka - Dearly Departed - Seeing this song live was awesome and it was in a tent so that's like awesome times two or something, I'm not good a circus math...or math.
The Weakerthans - Left and Leaving - Just and amazing song by an amazing band.
Cat Power - I Found A Reason - This song stole the show that was V For Vendetta and made me not hate Cat Power.
The Mountain Goats - This Year - Uh do I need to explain this?
The Decemberists - The Crane Wife Three - The whole album is fantastic start to finish and The Crane Wife One and Two should be here as well.
The Appleseed Cast - Peregrine - The Cast are from Lawrence, gangster.
Ladytron - Destroy Everything You Touch (Hot Chip Remix) - Put this on repeat while ridding the train and you're set.
Hot Chip - The Warning - Hot Chip will break your legs, snap off your head.
Sufjan Stevens - The Lord God Bird - Read and revel.
Taking Back Sunday - Up Against (Blackout) - This song got me through a many a middle two mile runs.
Ray LaMontagne - Half Alive - This is the track that got me hip to Ray.
Liam And Me - Fast As You Can - These guys do the eighties sound revive right and own it as far as I'm concerned.
The Format - At The Wake - Great song about death and what it leaves behind.
Well that's it kids. Oh-six was kind of a big year for me, the move, the job, the apartment, the time I locked myself out of the apartment, ok four times, the time I hit F4 on the vending machine when I meant to hit F3, the time I thought I saw a ghost but then realized It was just a coat hanger but then wondered where that coat hanger came from, but I'm more than happy to see it go. Onward and upward.
